Immobiliser fitting in Birmingham, start to finish.
Most of the value of an aftermarket immobiliser is in the fitting, not the box. Where the module goes, how it is wired and how well it is hidden decide whether it survives contact with someone who knows what they are looking for. Here is exactly what we do, and how to judge anyone else quoting you.
What happens on the day
Compatibility check, before you book
Make, model and year. We confirm the vehicle has a supported CAN, LIN or ADC bus and quote a fixed price for that car, not a range for cars in general.
Concealment decided per vehicle
The position is chosen for your car and is not something we publish. Two identical models fitted a month apart do not have to be in the same place.
Wiring and soldering
Typically around six connections, depending on the vehicle. Soldered, not scotch-locked, because a crimped joint that works today is a warranty call in eighteen months.
Programming to the vehicle
The module is programmed for your specific car in the same appointment.
App, TAG and backup sequence
We install the LockCar app on your phone, pair the module over Bluetooth, pair a proximity TAG if you have chosen one, and agree your backup access sequence using buttons the car already has.
Testing, with you doing it
Blocking, disarming on approach, valet mode, backup sequence. You use each one yourself before you drive away, because a system you have never operated is a system you will not trust.
Why concealment is most of the job
A thief inside a car that will not start has a decision to make: spend time looking, or leave. Everything about a good installation is designed to make that decision easy for them.
That means no LED on the dashboard announcing that a system exists, no keypad, and no module in the six places every installer in the country uses. It also means wiring that looks like the car's own wiring, rather than an obvious aftermarket loom running somewhere it should not.
If a quote promises a very fast fit, ask where the module goes. A module that takes twenty minutes to fit takes twenty minutes to find and remove. Speed is not a feature here.
How to judge an installer in Birmingham
They will not tell you where it goes
This is the correct answer, and it should be given confidently rather than evasively. An installer who names the location on the phone gives the same answer to everyone.
They ask about your car before pricing
A price quoted before anyone knows what you drive is a starting figure that will move on the day.
They explain the backup
Every authorisation method fails eventually. What matters is what you do at half past six on a wet Tuesday when it does.
They tell you what it does not do
An immobiliser is not a tracker and does not stop the doors opening. Anyone who lets you believe otherwise is selling, not advising.
You can reach the fitter afterwards
Ask directly whether the person quoting is the person fitting, and whether they are the person who answers in a year.
They put the price in writing
Including the options, including any reprogramming charge if you change car later.
After the fitting
Firmware updates arrive over the air by Bluetooth through the app, so improvements do not mean a trip anywhere. The module is reprogrammable, so when you change car it can be moved across rather than written off. If you add drivers, more phones or TAGs can be paired.
Tell your insurer that a security device has been fitted. It may or may not change your premium, but an undeclared modification is an argument you do not want to be having during a claim. Our price guide covers the insurance question honestly.
Questions we get asked
Can I fit a CAN bus immobiliser myself?
We would not recommend it. Fitting needs soldering, knowledge of your car's specific wiring and programming to the vehicle. A module fitted in the obvious place, badly concealed, is worth very little.
How long does the appointment take?
Allow most of a working session. The time goes on concealment, wiring and programming, plus testing everything with you at the end.
Do you come to me or do I come to you?
Tell us where the car is when you enquire and we will confirm what we can do for your location and vehicle. Because the fitting involves soldering, it is not a job we rush on a kerbside.
Will fitting leave marks on my car?
No trim should be damaged and nothing is visible afterwards. There are no LEDs, no keypad and nothing on the dashboard.
What do I need to bring or have ready?
The vehicle, both keys, and your phone with enough battery to install and pair the app. That is all.
Do you give me any paperwork?
Yes. You get the details of the installation and the warranty. Keep it with your vehicle documents and tell your insurer the device is fitted.
What if something goes wrong later?
You contact us directly. Firmware updates arrive over the air through the app, so many things are resolved without the car going anywhere.
